DENVER — Kaiser Permanente — Colorado’s leading nonprofit health plan and one of the state’s largest health care providers — has launched Kaiser Permanente Choice PPO to bring more value-based care to more Coloradans. This new product broadens Kaiser Permanente’s commercial (private) health plan offerings for large employer groups. The preferred provider organization (PPO) plan is available during open enrollment this fall for Colorado employers along the Front Range starting with January 1, 2024 effective dates.

Kaiser Permanente Choice PPO is an all-in-one solution for Colorado businesses  with more than 100 employees and that are interested in offering a PPO in addition to one of Kaiser Permanente’s traditional health care plans. Uniquely, this plan features a blend of Kaiser Permanente’s nationally recognized integrated health care and coverage model and an extended network of Colorado’s leading doctors, hospitals, and health systems.

With the new comprehensive network, Kaiser Permanente’s care and coverage will extend statewide to nearly every community in Colorado. The Choice PPO Network of contracted hospitals and affiliated providers continues to grow each week with the recent addition of all UCHealth hospitals and more Centura Health hospitals (which are becoming CommonSpirit Health), including Penrose, St. Francis, St. Francis-Interquest, St. Thomas More, and St. Mary-Corwin. The network also includes longtime contracted health systems such as SCL Health (now part of Intermountain Health), Children’s Hospital Colorado, Banner Health, and many more.

The new plan’s complementary offerings will provide additional flexibility and convenience for Colorado employers seeking high-quality, affordable health care options. With the changing face of the workforce and more people working remotely, the Choice PPO allows businesses along Colorado’s Front Range to offer Kaiser Permanente coverage to employees who live both inside and outside of Kaiser Permanente’s footprint, and even out of state. This also simplifies the plan administration process for employers that prefer to have one health carrier to cover all of their employees.

“We are continuing to evolve to better meet the health care needs of a growing Colorado — and to better meet our goal of growing our nonprofit, value-based care model,” said Mike Ramseier, regional president of Kaiser Permanente Colorado. “Coloradans are looking for health plans that include more options to easily access care when, where, and how they need it. That’s why we created Kaiser Permanente Choice PPO, which features the best of what we have to offer combined with providers and health systems that share our commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable care.”

Highlights of the new plan

The Kaiser Permanente Choice PPO includes:

  • Access to over 1,200 Kaiser Permanente Colorado doctors who make up one of the state’s largest multispecialty physician groups
  • Ability to receive care at any of Kaiser Permanente’s 30 medical offices along the Front Range, where at most locations members can see their doctor, fill a prescription, and get blood work or an X-ray, all under one roof
  • Access to Kaiser Permanente brick-and-mortar pharmacies and mail-order pharmacy, as well as network pharmacies, including Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, Safeway, and Costco
  • Additional options to receive care from a wide network of providers across Colorado and nationally
  • Freedom to choose a doctor for each visit — no referral needed
  • Robust ways to access care through in-person and on-demand virtual options
  • Industry-leading digital tools to support members in proactively managing their health
  • Expanded resources for employers to implement workforce wellness programs
  • A New Member Connect team to ensure disruption-free enrollment for Colorado businesses and employees
  • Simplicity of administration for employers that want one carrier that offers care, coverage, and options for all their employees, no matter where they reside
  • A variety of plan designs to fit employee needs, with a range of deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums

“We are excited to offer a new care and coverage option that delivers exceptional quality and value,” said Jeff Krawcek, MD, president and executive medical director of Kaiser Permanente Colorado. “With this plan offering, more Coloradans will be able to receive medical care from Kaiser Permanente’s best-in-class physicians and clinicians while also enjoying the flexibility and convenience of additional options.”
